The article I'm posting for this week is: McCain Strategist Warns GOP Risks Becoming 'Religious Party'.
This article discusses that fact that the Republican Party is becoming too divided with the rest of the country when it comes to gay rights. The Republicans are at risk for becoming too religion oriented and this is going to be their eventual downfall.

Meghan McCain, Sen. McCain's daugther spoke as well in favor the GOP relaxing their position on gay rights. And as unfortunate as it is, less and less people are going to chuch; and if less and less of the electorate is going to chuch, the party may ultimatley need to let down its stance somewhat. What about allowing them to marry, have partnerships, etc. but not teaching it in schools, giving them the same rights, etc.?! At least they can do it then if they come to the decision on their own for the right reasons.
ReplyDeleteThe G.O.P. needs to go "back to the future" and become more like the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Eisenhower. This would be a party so far from what the Republicans have become that it would, in effect, be a new party.
ReplyDeleteThis article can link back to the more moderate views once again. If people have more conservative views on defense spending but are for gay marriage, they are more apt to vote for a more moderate president rather than one posted on the far left or far right of the spectrum. In this sense, the Republican Party doesn't have many left who consider themselves to be far to the right if these people are "for" gay marriage. There are so many issues to side on that it is hard to classify someone hardcore with one particular party.
