Huckabee Blasts McCain for Supporting $700B Bailout

Take a look at this article. It talks about how McCain should have given Americans a "true, authentic conservative choice rather than a big government echo with a weak 'me too' way of doing things," concerning the Bailout when during the campaign he rushed back to Congress in an effort to "fix the economy" . Here we see that even members among the same party don't always agree with each other. Republicans are suppose to hate the Bailout - yet McCain, a "Republican" supported it?

  1. McCain's support of the fall bailout probably did not hurt him as much as his statement that "The fundamentals of the economy are sound," and his economic adviser Phil Gramm's comment about all of the "whiners" upset about the bad economy. This helped to cement the image of the Republicans as out-of-touch old guys.

  2. While they do belong to the same party in name, Huckabee and McCain are ideologically divided on a number of issues. Also, that McCain maneuver when he suspended his campaign was for the most part an empty gesture, as he was simply playing politics and trying to slow the momentum that Obama had built. As far as Huckabee goes, it is much easier to posture and point fingers when you don't actually hold an elected office and are not accountable to anyone. He is now a conservative talk show host, same as Limbaugh.

  3. This goes to show that Republicans still do side with Democrats when it comes to certain issues and vice versa. Even though the amount of "Southern Democrats" and "Northern Republicans" has gone down, the notion of divided parties still comes about when it comes to certain issues. It is possible for the minority to have a bigger say in politics because of this.

  4. McCain has never really been a Republican in the sense that Mike Huckabee is a Republican. Huckabee has been much more in support of a conservative agenda rather than John McCain. McCain had stated so many times that he would cross the party lines and make the decisions that were better for the people, which in the end should be something the people do like. But at the same time it is nice to see somebody stick with those that have helped him be in the position he is today, and at the same time be against a bill that has drawn a lot of criticism.
